Greetings to all on the International Day of Yoga

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in ancient India.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, had suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.

The summer solstice was decided to be celebrated as a yoga day due to its cultural significance in different parts of the world. This is an auspicious time to honor the sun. The idea was endorsed by 175 member states, after which the United Nations designated June 21, as the International Day of Yoga. This is an auspicious time to honor the sun.

There are certain yoga poses including Reverse Warrior, Low Lunge, Dancer’s Pose, Warrior II, Sitting Meditation, Surya Namaskar and many more that you can try during the summer solstice. Yoga experts suggest that practicing yoga on the summer solstice helps build a connection with the sun and nature.

The day is celebrated across cultures and religions and encourages people to make connections with the rhythms of nature and its changing energies. Yoga is a great way to honor the summer solstice and create closeness to mother nature.
